The Eden Prairie Reads Committee is excited to announce that Yaa Gyasi, author of Homegoing, will be coming to speak to the community on March 6, 2017. This novel was chosen for its beautiful story and relevance today.
This debut novel is a riveting story of race, history, ancestry, love and time that traces the descendants of two sisters torn apart in eighteenth-century Africa across 300 years, beginning in Ghana and then to America. Two half sisters were born into different villages and their children took different paths through history. Homegoing stretches from the wars of Ghana to slavery, the Civil War in the US, coal mines in the American south to 20th century Harlem.
“This powerful American novel gives us insight into others and will promote much-needed conversations in our community,” said Jody Russell, chair of Eden Prairie Reads.
Yaa Gyasi’s presentation will also include a moderated Q&A and book signing. Other activities are being planned and will be announced soon here.
