Welcome to Eden Prairie Reads

Do you like to read? Do you ever wish you had someone to talk to about the books you read? Or maybe your book club needs a great book to read? Then consider joining your community in a citywide read!

The 2011 Book Has Been Chosen!
Eden Prairie Reads has chosen Warren St. John's Outcasts United as its 2011 community read selection. The book tells the story of a soccer team of refugee boys, their remarkable coach, and the small, southern community where the refugee families were resettled by the United Nations in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The book tells specific immigrant stories and discusses the challenges for the refugees in their new community. It has themes about resilience in the face of hardship, the power of one person to make a difference, the value of organized sports, and the challenge of creating community among people with very different backgrounds.

We invite you to pick up a copy of Outcasts United at the library or a local bookstore. We encourage you to read it and then have a discussion of the book with your book club, your organization, or friends in the community. Then join us for events related to the book in Spring 2011. Details of the events will be posted on this website by January 2011.
